Sabbath Greetings for 4 - 2000

Sabbath Greetings for 4-1-00   Calendar

Reading time 4 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Someone told me an interesting tale. I wonder if it’s true.
Long ago the year began in the Spring.
Exodus 12:1  Now Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron
in the land of Egypt, saying,
2  "This month shall be your beginning of months;
it shall be the first month of the year to you.

In another place He tells us it is in Spring.

Deuteronomy 16:1  "Observe the month of Abib,
and keep the Passover to Yahweh your Elohim,
for in the month of Abib Yahweh your Elohim
brought you out of Egypt by night.

The word ‘Abib’ or ‘aveev’ means ‘green’, or ‘green ears’
and it stands for the green ears of winter barley that appear at that time.

Well, as time went on, people started playing with the calendar.

Daniel recorded a prophesy about someone who would do this:

Daniel 7:24-25  The ten horns are ten kings
who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them; He shall be different
from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings.  25
He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
and shall TRY TO CHANGE SET TIMES and law.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand for
a time and times and half a time.

As they played with the calendar, one of the things they did
was to change the beginning of the year
to the time of the winter solstice (the shortest day of the year).
Even today, the first day of the year is only ten days from the solstice.

Since the winter solstice was always a big long celebration,
the new year became part of it.
New Years parties have a long history.

But there were those who didn’t take part.
There were some who continued to believe
that the beginning of the year was in the Spring.
They were looking at the beginning of the fourth month,
just ten days after the Spring equinox as the beginning of the year.
And today you may hear the same thing those people heard on this day.
People made fun of them for using the ‘wrong time’ to begin the year.
For not beginning the year in January they were called ‘April Fools.’

Of course the whole calendar that has April in it
is not like Yahweh’s calendar because it ignores the moon.
In Yahweh’s calendar the months begin
when you can first see the new moon.
This month is the beginning of the year and
we expect to see the new moon next Wednesday evening 4-5-00.
Watch for it in the Western sky just after sunset.
You have to be watchful because the new moon is a very thin crescent.

Because there is too much light in the sky just after sunset,
a new moon is never seen until
the sun has been down for about twenty minutes.
Sometimes the moon sets only about 45 minutes after the sun sets.

Brother Rich Lobert has a fine web site
which includes a page about the new moons.

If you see the new moon you can report it to him at
shem@goodnet.com
please send:
town/city,
time of your sighting,
and number of people sighting the moon with the naked eye.

He will post reports of interest at
NEW MOON REPORT at:
http://www.goodnet.com/~shem/moon.htm
Web Site at http://www.goodnet.com/~shem

Don’t neglect to praise Yahweh on the new moon day.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with His Shalom on this Sabbath Day.

Sabbath Greetings for 4-8-00  Change Laws??
Reading time 5 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Last Sabbath we quoted from the prophet Daniel:

Daniel 7:24-25  The ten horns are ten kings
who shall arise from this kingdom.
And another shall rise after them; He shall be different
from the first ones, and shall subdue three kings.  25
He shall speak pompous words against the Most High,
shall persecute the saints of the Most High,
and shall TRY TO CHANGE set times and LAWS.
Then the saints shall be given into his hand for
a time and times and half a time.

So, if we are in the end times that Daniel was writing about
we should see someone trying to change the LAWS.
Do we see that?
Consider these quotations from Yahweh’s law
and see if you know of any attempt to set them aside
or even to punish those who uphold them.

Exodus 20:4-5  "You shall not make for yourself a carved image,
or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above,
or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth;
you shall not bow down to them nor serve them. . . .

Exodus 20:8  Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.
9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10 but THE SEVENTH DAY is the Sabbath of Yahweh your Elohim.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter,
nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle,
nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11 For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Exodus 20:12  "Honor your father and your mother,
that your days may be long upon the land
which Yahweh your Elohim is giving you.

Exodus 20:13  "You shall not murder. [Even unborn babies?]

Exodus 20:17  "You shall not covet your neighbor's house;
you shall not covet your neighbor's wife,
nor his male servant, nor his female servant,
nor his ox, nor his donkey, nor anything that is your neighbor's."
[Even when seeing neat advertisements?]

Leviticus 20:13  'If a man lies with a male as he lies with a woman,
both of them have committed an abomination.
They shall surely be put to death. Their blood shall be upon them.

Deuteronomy 16:16  "Three times [seasons] a year
all your males shall appear before Yahweh your Elohim
in the place which He chooses:
at the Feast of Unleavened Bread,
at the Feast of Weeks, and
at the Feast of Tabernacles;
and they shall not appear before Yahweh empty-handed.

Well my friend, if any of these have been changed
you can be sure of one thing;
Our Savior is not the source of the change. He said,
"Do not think that I came to destroy the Law
or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away,
one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law
till all is fulfilled.” Matthew 5:17-18

There may be many who chose to disobey Yahweh
but DON’T join their ranks.
There are great blessings which come from keeping His law.

"Yahweh will establish you as a holy people to Himself,
just as He has sworn to you, IF YOU KEEP THE COMMANDMENTS
of Yahweh your Elohim and walk in His ways.
10 Then all peoples of the earth shall see that you
are called by the name of Yahweh, and they shall be afraid of you.
11 And Yahweh will grant you plenty of goods,
in the fruit of your body, in the increase of your livestock,
and in the produce of your ground,
 in the land of which Yahweh swore to your fathers to give you.
12 "Yahweh will open to you His good treasure, the heavens,
to give the rain to your land in its season,
and to bless all the work of your hand.
You shall lend to many nations, but you shall not borrow.
13 "And Yahweh will make you the head and not the tail;
you shall be above only, and not be beneath,
IF YOU HEED THE COMMANDMENTS of Yahweh your Elohim,
which I command you today, and are careful to observe them.  Deuteronomy 28:9-13

Deuteronomy 30:15-16  "Look, I have set before you today life and good,
death and evil,  in that I command you today to love Yahweh your Elohim,
to walk in His ways, and to keep His commandments,
His statutes, and His judgments, that you may live and multiply; and
YAHWEH YOUR ELOHIM WILL BLESS YOU in the land which you go to possess.”

Friends, may Yahweh indeed bless you
as you keep His wonderful commandments.

Sabbath Greetings for  4- 15 - 00   The Lamb
Reading time 4 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

This Sabbath is the tenth day of Abib, the first month.

Exodus 12:1-5  Now Yahweh spoke to Moses and Aaron
in the land of Egypt, saying,
2. "This month shall be your beginning of months;
it shall be the first month of the year to you.
3. Speak to all the congregation of Israel, saying:
'On the tenth day of this month every man shall take for himself a lamb,
according to the house of his father, a lamb for a household. . . .
5. Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year.
You may take it from the sheep or from the goats.

The idea was to take the lamb out of the field and bring it to the house.
The children would feed it and play with it and give it water.
It was not a baby lamb born this Spring. It was just one year old.

It was also checked before it was selected.
It was a perfect lamb.
You couldn’t see anything wrong with it, no matter how hard you looked.
Of course they got to like the little guy.
The children had a pet for a few days.

Then, four days later the lamb had to fulfill its purpose.

He was killed to save the firstborn sons of Israel from death
on Passover night.

Exodus 12:6. Now you shall keep it until the fourteenth day of the same month.
Then the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel shall kill it at twilight.’

Of course the lamb is a type of Yahshua the Messiah.
We see that in the evangel accounts in many ways.
One of those fulfillment probably occurred on this day – the tenth of Abib.

Matthew 21:1-11  Now when they drew near Jerusalem,
and came to Bethphage, at the Mount of Olives,
then Yahshua sent two disciples,
2. saying to them, "Go into the village opposite you,
and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her.
Loose them and bring them to Me.
3. "And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say,
'The Master has need of them,' and immediately he will send them."
   4. All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken
by the prophet, saying: 5. "Tell the daughter of Zion,
'Behold, your King is coming to you, Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,
A colt, the foal of a donkey.'"
   6. So the disciples went and did as Yahshua commanded them.
7. They brought the donkey and the colt, laid their clothes on them,
and set Him on them.
8. And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road;
others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road.
9. Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out,
saying: "HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID!
'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF Yahweh!'
HOSANNA IN THE HIGHEST!"
   10. And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying,
"Who is this?"
11. So the multitudes said, "This is Yahshua, the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee."

The people were calling out HOSANNA TO THE SON OF DAVID!
Hosanna is a Hebrew word that means, ‘Oh save!’
They wanted Yahshua to be their Savior.
They expected that he could free them from the rulership of the Romans.
They had heard Yahshua teach.
They had seen him heal people.
They knew he could save them.
So they welcomed him to the city. They took good care of him.

Yahshua was a perfect man.
You couldn’t see anything wrong with him, no matter how hard you looked.
Of course they got to like him.
Yahshua was a popular man for a few days.

Then four days later, the lamb of Yahweh had to fulfill his purpose

He was killed on Passover to save children of Israel from death.

Friends, try to read about the end of Yahshua’s days
during the time between now and Passover.
Get to know the lamb a little better.
May Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day.
May your Passover be full of meaning.
May shalom, joy and love reign in your home.

Sabbath Greetings for 4- 22 - 00   Jerusalem
Reading time 2 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

We had a wonderful Passover!
We had about thirty people for a full dinner and of course
the foot-washing, the bread and wine.

This is the first time we had the questions from the children
and I think it added a lot to the evening.
Many of those present had a part to play
and we all found it meaningful and uplifting.

At the end of the evening we all gave the traditional ending
for a Passover Seder. “NEXT YEAR IN JERUSALEM!”

This has special meaning for believers.
When Yahshua had his last Passover, he told the disciples,
"But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine
from now on until that day when I drink it new with you
in My Father's kingdom." Matthew 26:29.

His father’s kingdom is going to be set up on earth
when he returns here.
In Zecheriah 14 we see Yahweh coming to Jerusalem
and ruling the earth from there.

We pray that this kingdom would come soon.
Many signs of the times show that the time may be near.
When Yahshua returns we hope to be raised
to meet him in the air and be with him where he is.

John 14:3  "And if I go and prepare a place for you,
I will come again and receive you to Myself;
that where I am, there you may be also.

So for us the ancient phrase  “Next Year in Jerusalem!”
is really the prayer that Yahshua will return within the next year.
May it be so Father Yahweh!

I’m going to end this message now because we must leave
early tomorrow to travel to Rocheport.
I am scheduled to speak there this Sabbath.
I hope to see many of you there. If you can join us, please do.

Last Sabbath I read a compilation of selections from
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John called ‘Yahshua’s Last Passover.’
These scriptures tell the story of that great day.
If you would like to have a cassette of this reading,
just send us your mailing address.
ITS FREE.

May your Sabbath and the coming week be a blessing to you.
Friends, may Yahweh be with you on this Sabbath Day.

Sabbath Greetings for  4- 29 - 00  I love your law
Reading time 4 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

David said, “Oh How I love your law!”

He gave plenty of reasons too. Here are some examples:

Psalms 19:7-11  The law of Yahweh is perfect, converting the soul;
The testimony of Yahweh is sure, making wise the simple;
8. The statutes of Yahweh are right, rejoicing the heart;
The commandment of Yahweh is pure, enlightening the eyes;
9. The fear of Yahweh is clean, enduring forever;
The judgments of Yahweh are true and righteous altogether.
10. More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold;
Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb.
11. Moreover by them Your servant is warned,
in keeping them there is great reward.

Psalms 94:12-13  Blessed is the man whom You instruct,
O Yahweh, And teach out of Your law,
13. That You may give him rest from the days of adversity,
Until the pit is dug for the wicked.

Psalms 1:1-3  Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked,
Nor stands in the path of sinners, Nor sits in the seat of the scornful;
2. But his delight is in the law of Yahweh,
and in His law he meditates day and night.
3. He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water,
That brings forth its fruit in its season,
Whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.

Psalms 119:142  Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
And Your law is truth.

Psalms 119:165  Great peace have those who love Your law,
And nothing causes them to stumble.

Yahshua also loved the law:
Matthew 5:17-19  "Do not think that I came to destroy the Law
or the Prophets. I did not come to destroy but to fulfill.
18. For assuredly, I say to you, till heaven and earth pass away,
one jot or one tittle will by no means pass from the law till all is fulfilled.
19. Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of these commandments,
and teaches men so, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven;
but whoever does and teaches them,
he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Psalms 119:97-105  Oh, how I love Your law!
It is my meditation all the day.
98. You, through Your commandments,
make me wiser than my enemies; for they are ever with me.
99. I have more understanding than all my teachers,
For Your testimonies are my meditation.
100. I understand more than the ancients,
Because I keep Your precepts.
101. I have restrained my feet from every evil way,
That I may keep Your word.
102. I have not departed from Your judgments,
For You Yourself have taught me.
103. How sweet are Your words to my taste,
Sweeter than honey to my mouth!
104. Through Your precepts I get understanding;
Therefore I hate every false way.
105. Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day through His great law..
