Sabbath Greetings for 3 - 2000

Sabbath Greetings for 3-4-00    Love 4
In our studies based on 1 Corinthians 13 (See SGA02)
we’ve seen the great importance of loving the brethren
and we’ve seen what it means to be a loving person.
Now we’re ready to explore what I think is
the most exciting part of the chapter;
the part that tells about our future.

Let’s say someone gave you some bricks.
Let’s say you thought it would be good for the family
to have a Bar-B-Que in the back yard.
Would it make more sense to just stack the bricks up
to make the BBQ you wanted
or to get some mortar and a few pieces of iron
to make a BBQ that would really last?
Most people would choose to build something that will last.

There is a similar choice to make regarding love.

Look at the next few verses in 1 Corinthians 13:
(I’ll put this scripture in CAPS so you can tell it easily.)
1 Corinthians 13:8  LOVE NEVER FAILS.
How much true love we have is one of the things
   that DEFINES our character.
As we live on through our change
to being one of Yahweh’s children,
   this love will stay constant.

When is a prophecy useless? When all prophecies have been fulfilled!

In the kingdom, only one language will be spoken.
"For then I will restore to the peoples a pure language,
That they all may call on the name of Yahweh,
To serve Him with one accord.”   Zephaniah 3:9

Have you ever heard the saying,
“If I had his money I’d through mine away!”
What if we were filled with Yahweh’s spirit to teach us ALL things?
Our present knowledge would be considered very trivial.

Ephesians 4:13  till we all come to the unity of the faith
and of the knowledge of the Son of Elohim,
   to a perfect man,
   to the measure of the stature of the fullness of the Messiah;

Hebrews 9:11  But the Messiah came as High Priest
of the good things to come,
with the greater and more perfect tabernacle
not made with hands, that is, not of this creation.

1 Corinthians 13:11  WHEN I WAS A CHILD, I SPOKE AS A CHILD,

Did you notice that Paul didn’t demean the love of a child.
In fact in the next chapter he says,
“Brethren, do not be children in your thinking.
   In evil, be like infants,
but in your thinking be mature.” 1 Corinthians 14:20

Little children may tend to be selfish,
but their love is not loaded down with ulterior (adult) motives.

1 Corinthians 13:12  FOR NOW WE SEE AS IN A POOR MIRROR,
Brethren, Friends, he’s talking about the coming Kingdom of Yahweh!

1 Corinthians 13:13  AND NOW ABIDE (live on)

I believe Paul is telling us to build something of lasting value.
The love we build today is of far more permanence
than that well-built brick Bar-B-Que.
This love will last forever and have GREAT VALUE in the kingdom.

This last verse tells us that three things last forever.

That means that if I have a choice between
praying for an hour and thus building my faith
OR spending that hour learning how to better love the brethren
then I need to PURSUE LOVE.

If I have a choice between studying prophecy for an hour
and thus building my hope in Yahweh’s promises
OR spending that hour practicing love for the brethren
then I need to PURSUE LOVE.

Friends, Love is of overwhelming importance.
Love is absolutely necessary to be in Yahweh’s family.
Love for our brethren is what really pleases our Heavenly Father.
Love is certainly a great part of His character, for Yahweh is love! (1 John 4:8)

Matthew 5:48  "Therefore you shall become perfect,
just as your Father in heaven is perfect.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with abundant, outgoing,
everlasting love on this Sabbath Day.

Sabbath Greetings for 3-11-00    Love 5
Reading time 6 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

I don’t think I can improve these scriptures or
your understanding of them by any comments I might make.
So here they are:

1 Thessalonians 4:9  But concerning brotherly love
you have no need that I should write to you,
for you yourselves are taught by Yahweh to love one another;
10  and indeed you do so toward all the brethren
who are in all Macedonia.
But we urge you, brethren, that you increase more and more;
11  that you also aspire to lead a quiet life,
to mind your own business,
and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you,

Romans 12:9  Let love be without hypocrisy.
Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good.
10  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,
in honor giving preference to one another;

2 Peter 1:5  But also for this very reason, giving all diligence,
add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6  to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance,
to perseverance piety,
7  to piety brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.
8  For if these things are yours in abundance,
you will be neither barren nor unfruitful
in the knowledge of our Master Yahshua the Messiah.
9  For he who lacks these things is so shortsighted that he is
virtually blind, and has forgotten that he was cleansed from his old sins.
10  Therefore, brethren, be even more diligent to secure your call
and election, for if you do these things you will never stumble;
11  for in this way an entrance will be abundantly supplied to you
into the everlasting kingdom of our Master and Savior Yahshua the Messiah.

1 John 3:10  This is how we know who the children of Yahweh are
and who the children of the devil are:
Anyone who does not do what is right is not a child of Yahweh;
nor is anyone who does not love his brother.
11  This is the message you heard from the beginning:
We must love one another.
12  not as Cain who was of the wicked one and murdered his brother.
And why did he murder him?
Because his works were evil and his brother's righteous.
13  Do not marvel, my brethren, if the world hates you.
14  We know that we have passed from death to life,
because we love the brethren.
15  Whoever hates his brother is a murderer,
and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him.
16  By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us.
And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.
17  But whoever has this world's goods, and sees his brother in need,
and shuts up his heart from him,
how does the love of Yahweh abide in him?
18  My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth.
19  And by this we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our hearts before Him.
20  For if our heart condemns us,
Yahweh is greater than our heart, and knows all things.
21  Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us,
we have confidence toward Yahweh.
22  And whatever we ask we receive from Him,
because we keep His commandments and
do those things that are pleasing in His sight.
23  And this is His commandment:
that we should believe on the name of His Son Yahshua the Messiah
and LOVE ONE ANOTHER, as He gave us commandment.

1 John 4:7  Beloved, let us love one another,
for love is of Yahweh;
and everyone who loves is born of Yahweh and knows Yahweh.
8  He who does not love does not know Yahweh,
for Yahweh is love.
9  In this the love of Yahweh to us was clearly shown,
that Yahweh has sent His only begotten Son into the world,
so that we might live through Him.
10  In this is love,
not that we loved Yahweh, but that He loved us
and sent His Son to be the propitiation for our sins.
11  Beloved, if Yahweh loved us like that,
we also ought to love one another.
12  No one has seen Yahweh at any time.
But if we love one another,
Yahweh lives within us, and His love has been perfected in us.
13  By this we know that we remain in Him, and He in us,
because He has given us of His Spirit.
14  And we have seen and testify
that the Father has sent the Son as Savior of the world.
15  Whoever confesses that Yahshua is the Son of Yahweh,
Yahweh lives within him, and he in Yahweh.
16  And we have known and believed
the love that Yahweh has for us.
Yahweh is love, and he who remains in love remains in Yahweh,
and Yahweh remains in him.
17  Love has been perfected among us in this:
so that we may have boldness in the day of judgment;
because as He is, so are we in this world.
18  There is no fear in love;
but perfect love casts out fear,
because fear involves torment.
But he who fears has not been made perfect in love.
19  We love Him because He first loved us.
20  If someone says, "I love Yahweh," and hates his brother,
                       he is a liar;
for he who does not love his brother whom he has seen,
how can he love Yahweh whom he has not seen?
21  And this commandment we have from Him:
that he who loves Yahweh must love his brother also.

1 John 5:1  Whoever believes that Yahshua is the Messiah
is born of Yahweh,
and everyone who loves Him who begot
also loves him who is begotten of Him.
2  By this we know that we love the children of Yahweh,
when we love Yahweh and keep His commandments.
3  For this is the love of Yahweh, that we keep His commandments.
And His commandments are not burdensome.
4  For whatever is born of Yahweh overcomes the world.
And this is the victory that has overcome the world; our faith.

1 Peter 2:17  Show proper respect to everyone:
Love the brotherhood of believers, fear Yahweh, honor the king.

Hebrews 13:1  Keep on loving each other as brothers.

1 Peter 3:8  Finally, all of you, live in harmony with one another;
be sympathetic, love as brothers, be compassionate and humble.
9  Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult,
but with blessing,
because you were called to this
10  For, "Whoever would love life and see good days
must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.
11  He must turn from evil and do good;
he must seek peace and pursue it.
12  For the eyes of the Yahweh are on the righteous
and his ears are attentive to their prayer, but
Yahweh’s face is against those who do evil."
[Peter quoted verses 10 to 12 from Psalms 34:12-16]

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with Yahshua’s pure love on this Sabbath Day.

Sabbath Greetings for  3- 18 - 00 Truth and Love
Reading time 4 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

We’ve seen many scriptures that say
we won’t be in the kingdom of Yahweh if we don’t have the right love;
but is there a scripture that says
we won’t get into the kingdom if we have the wrong doctrine?

Well, here’s the definition of doctrine:
The Greek is Strongs #1322. didache, did-akh-ay';
instruction (the act or the matter):--doctrine, hath been taught.
My English dictionary gives the same idea. It says doctrine is
“Something that is taught, a belief or set of beliefs that are taught.”

Doctrine may or may not be TRUTH.
It is just the stuff someone teaches.

As it turns out there are a few scriptures that relate doctrine to salvation:
1 Timothy 4:16  Take heed to yourself and to the doctrine.
Continue in them, for in doing this
you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Paul tells Timothy that if he pays attention to how he lives
and to what he teaches and how he teaches it,
then he can be saved
and be an instrument of salvation to his hearers

Yahshua himself had a few words to say about
bad teaching in the congregations:

Matthew 16:6  “Then Yahshua said to them, ‘Take heed
and beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the Sadducees.’”
Matthew 16:12  Then they [the disciples] understood that
He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread,
but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.

Revelation 2:20  "Nevertheless I have a few things against you,
because you allow that woman Jezebel,
who calls herself a prophetess,
to teach and seduce My servants to commit sexual immorality
and eat things sacrificed to idols.

Revelation 2:14  "But I have a few things against you,
because you have there those who hold the doctrine of Balaam,
who taught Balak to put a stumbling block before the children of Israel,
to eat things sacrificed to idols, and to commit sexual immorality.
15  "Thus you also have those who hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans,
which thing I hate.
16  'Repent, or else I will come to you quickly
and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.
17  "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the congregations.
To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat.
And I will give him a white stone,
and on the stone a new name written which no one knows
except him who receives it."'

Notice that having this wrong teaching is not
the end of the line for those believers.
If they repent of allowing those teachers to teach them,
then they can receive the manna from on high.

Yahshua is telling us that we have to be careful about who we listen to.

Just because someone says he is a teacher doesn’t mean
we should accept everything he says.
We need to be like those famous Bereans who checked up on Paul.

Acts 17:11  Now the Bereans were of more noble character
than the Thessalonians,
for they received the message with great eagerness and
examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.

The teaching we receive is good only insofar as
it promotes Yahweh’s truth.
But then a question arises.
John 18:38  "What is truth?" Pilate asked. . . .

Yahshua had given his disciples the answer just hours
before Pilate asked the question.
As he prayed to the Father, he had said:
John 17:17 “Sanctify them by Your truth. Your word is truth.”

Yahshua may have been quoting from Psalms 119:160,
“The entirety of Your word is truth,
and every one of Your righteous judgments endures forever.”

In particular we see that the Torah is truth:
Psalms 119:142  Your righteousness is an everlasting righteousness,
and Your Torah [law] is truth.

The Hebrew word for truth is Emet. It is an interesting word:
It is spelled Alef - Mem - Tau.
These are the first, middle and last letters in the Hebrew Alef-bet [alphabet].
The Rabbis say that reminds us that Yahweh’s word is truth
from the beginning - in the middle - and to the end.

So we need to stay close to Yahweh’s word,
His teaching,
His law.

John 8:31  Then Yahshua said to those Jews who believed Him,
"If you abide [remain] in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32  "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free."

In 1 Corinthians 13 we saw that love does not rejoice in iniquity,
but rejoices in the truth; (1 Corinthians 13:6)

1 John 3:18  My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue,
but in deed and in truth.
19  And by this we know that we are of the truth,
and shall assure our hearts before Him.

1 Peter 1:22  Since you have purified your souls in obeying the truth
through the Spirit in sincere love of the brethren,
love one another fervently with a pure heart,

2 John 1:3  Grace, mercy, and peace will be with you
from Yahweh the Father and from the Master Yahshua the Messiah,
the Son of the Father,
in truth and love.

Sabbath Greetings for 3- 25 - 00 The Narrow Way

Reading time 4 minutes

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Consider this sobering scripture:
John 6:66  From that time many of His disciples went back
and walked with Him no more.
67  Then Yahshua said to the twelve,
"Do you also want to go away?"

I think everyone has to answer Yahshua’s question.

We need to decide if we are going to follow Yahshua.
Sometimes it’s easy to fool ourselves
into thinking we are following Yahshua
when we’re actually just following others in the congregation.

Are we going there for the social life? (Sorry, “fellowship”.)
Are we going there because our family is there?
Are we just trying to LOOK LIKE we’re following?

What did the disciples answer?
John 6:68  But Simon Peter answered Him,
"Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
69  Also we have come to believe and know that
You are the Messiah, the Son of the living Elohim."

We can’t assume that someone else is going to lead us on the right path!
We have to EXCEED the righteousness of the local ‘Scribes and Pharisees’.
Each of us has to search the scriptures for ourselves.
Each of us should be so familiar with the story of Yahshua’s life
that we know exactly what ‘following him’ means.

We may declare before others and even to ourselves
that we are going to stick with our Savior.
“Of course we’re not going to leave him!”
“Turn my back on the Messiah – NEVER !

But I’m afraid this is what each of us does many times.
When the little tests come,
we take the easy way out,
we make a little compromise with the world.
we give in to the flesh,
we follow a man who is ‘supposed to be’ following Yahshua.

No, we don’t exactly turn our back on Him,
but we do often turn to the side.
The thing is: we can’t follow the path He walked
if we turn aside even a little.

A certain young man came to Yahshua
and asked him what to do to gain eternal life.
Yahshua told him to keep the commandments.
He said that he had kept them.
Yahshua didn’t directly challenge that statement.
But what he did was to tell the man what his next step must be.
Matthew 19:21  Yahshua said to him, "If you want to be perfect,
go sell what you have and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven;
and come, follow Me."
22  But when the young man heard that saying,
he went away sorrowful, for he had great possessions.

How many times did Peter see that happen
during the three and a half years he was with Yahshua?
I’m sure he saw it many times. In many ways.
Over big things like a fortune in gold and
over little things like the criticism of the Pharisees

Peter KNEW he would not turn away.
He KNEW he would follow Yahshua even to death.
John 13:36  Simon Peter said to Him, "Master, where are You going?"
Yahshua answered him, "Where I am going you cannot follow Me now,
but later you shall follow Me."
37  Peter said to Him, "Master, why can I not follow You now?
I will lay down my life for you!"
38  Yahshua answered him, "Will you lay down your life for Me?
Most assuredly, I say to you, the rooster shall not crow
till you have denied Me three times.

Let him who thinks he stands beware lest he fall.

Dear friends, there is no alternative.
There is only one path that leads to where Yahshua is.
That is to follow Him in the path he walked.

Let’s renew our minds by immersing ourselves in the study of Yahshua’s life.
We can’t follow unless we know what path He walked.
Become an expert on what Yahshua did.
Read the Evangels! Study Mathew, Mark, Luke and John.

May Yahweh bless you as you seek and follow that narrow way.

Shabbat Shalom from Tom and Cathy Schattke
