Sabbath Greetings for 6-5-99   The Early Congregation & Fear

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Let’s continue looking at the new Messianic Congregation in Jerusalem.

Acts 2:43  Then fear came upon every soul,
and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

Is fear a part of your life?

It should be.

But only in the right way, of course.

We should always be conscious of the price that has been paid for our life:

1 Peter 1:17  And if you call on the Father,
the one who judges impartially according to each person's actions,
you should live out your temporary stay on earth in fear;
18 being aware that the ransom paid to free you
from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers
did not consist of anything perishable like silver or gold,
19 on the contrary, it was the costly, bloody, sacrificial death of the Messiah,
as of a lamb without defect or spot.  (JNT)

Of course the Torah has many cautions to fear Yahweh:
     Leviticus 19:14  'You shall not curse the deaf, nor put a stumbling block
     before the blind, but shall fear your Elohim: I am Yahweh.

     Leviticus 19:32  'You shall rise before the gray headed and honor
     the presence of an old man, and fear your Elohim: I am Yahweh.

     Leviticus 25:17  'Therefore you shall not oppress one another,
     but you shall fear your Elohim; for I am Yahweh your Elohim.

     Leviticus 25:36  'Take no usury or interest from him; but
     fear your Elohim, that your brother may live with you.

     Leviticus 25:39  And if one of your brethren who dwells by you becomes poor,
     and sells himself to you, you shall not compel him to serve as a slave.
     40 As a hired servant and a sojourner he shall be with you, and shall serve you
     until the Year of Jubilee.  41  And then he shall depart from you;
     he and his children with him; and shall return to his own family.
     He shall return to the possession of his fathers.
     42 'For they are My servants, whom I brought
     out of the land of Egypt; they shall not be sold as slaves.
     43  You shall not rule over him with rigor, but you shall fear your Elohim.

Yahshua also cautions us:
     Matthew 10:28  "And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul.
     But rather fear Him who is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.
[The reference is not to Satan but to Yahweh who alone has the power to condemn.]

The scriptures are full of these cautions.  Finding and reading them makes a good study.

With the proper fear of Yahweh comes righteousness and that righteousness yields a close
relationship with Him as our loving Father.  Maybe that is why many wonders and signs were
done in that congregation.

Acts 10:34 . . . In truth I perceive that Yahweh shows no partiality.  35  But in every nation
whoever fears Him and does righteousness is accepted by Him.

2 Corinthians 7:1  Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of Yahweh.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day with the wonderful fruits of the righteous
fear and obedience of Yahweh.

Sabbath Greetings for 6-12-99  The Early Congregation & Signs and Wonders
 
Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Let’s look at the new Messianic Congregation in Jerusalem once again.

Same verse again too:
Acts 2:43  Then fear came upon every soul,
and many wonders and signs were done through the apostles.

Just what were the “wonders and signs” that were done through the apostles?

The book of Acts is full of examples.  Here are some familiar ones:

Acts 3:6  Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have,
but what I do have I give you:
In the name of Yahshua the Messiah of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
7  And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up,
and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
8  So he, leaping up, stood and walked and entered the temple with them;
walking, leaping, and praising Yahweh.

Acts 5:14  And believers were increasingly added to the Master,
multitudes of both men and women,
15  so that they brought the sick out into the streets
and laid them on beds and couches,
that at least the shadow of Peter passing by might fall on some of them.
16  Also a multitude gathered from the surrounding cities to Jerusalem,
bringing sick people and those who were tormented by unclean spirits,
and THEY WERE ALL HEALED.

Acts 5:19  But at night an angel of Yahweh OPENED THE PRISON DOORS
and brought them out, and said,
20  "Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life."

These things may remind us
of the things that happened to another new congregation about 1500 years earlier.
As Yahweh brought His chosen people out of Egypt
He put together the greatest string of miracles since the week of creation.

What do these two periods of time have in common?
What was Yahweh doing with these two new congregations?

Just what are wonders and signs?

Just what it sounds like – wonders get us to think and signs give us information.

Both of these new congregations experienced wonders.
It is hard to imagine the feeling of seeing something happen that CAN NOT happen
and knowing that it has happened and there is only one explanation for that.
It would make us wonder.
We would wonder what is next, what these things mean,
why they were happening to us instead of someone else.

The signs are a different matter.
A good sign is easy to read.
It may say, “Yahweh loves you,”
or, “Danger!”
or, “Yield”
or “Caution - Children playing.”

These new congregations so many centuries ago
were given wonders and signs to help their faith.
I sometimes ask our Father to give signs and blessings to new believers
in a way that they will know the source.
I think that new believers often are specially blessed.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with wonder in your life.
May you be alert to read and understand the signs.

Sabbath Greetings for  6- 19 - 99  The Early Congregation & THINGS
 
Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Still more about the new congregation at Jerusalem:

Acts 2:44  Now all who believed were together, and had all things in common,
45  and sold their possessions and goods, and divided them among all, as anyone had need.

To some people this looks like a communal living situation.
Some have taken these few words and those at Acts 4:32-37
and built a doctrine around them which tells them to sell their possessions
and live together with no individual property.

Is that what we are intended to understand from this scripture?
Probably not.

The few glimpses scripture gives us into the congregations just after this time
do not show communal living to be the common standard.
We see sharing of goods with those in need in other congregations
but not the ‘whole enchilada’, giving up every valuable personal possession.

1 Corinthians 16:1  Now concerning the collection for the saints,
as I have given orders to the congregations of Galatia, so you must do also:
2  On the first day of the week let each one of you lay something aside,
storing up as he may prosper, so that there be no collections when I come.

Even in Acts 5:1-10, in the story of Ananias and his wife Sapphira,
we find that they were not required to give their money or property to the congregation (5:4).
The only problem was that they SAID they were giving it all, but they lied.
They could have given the same amount
and it would have been fine if they had just not lied about it.
Even though money has a part in it, this story is not about money.
It is about honesty.

The other side of this argument is a very compelling one.
It stems from the command to love others.
Yahshua’s attitude toward things of value is shown in this incident:

Matthew 19:16  Now behold, one came and said to Him,
"Good Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?"
17  So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good?
No one is good but One, that is, Yahweh.
But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments."
18  He said to Him, "Which ones?"
Yahshua  said, " 'You shall not murder,' 'You shall not commit adultery,'
'You shall not steal,' 'You shall not bear false witness,'
19  'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'"
20  The young man said to Him,
"All these things I have kept from my youth. What do I still lack?"
21  Yahshua  said to him, "If you want to be perfect,
go, sell what you have and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
22  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful,
for he had great possessions.
23  Then Yahshua said to His disciples, "Assuredly, I say to you
that it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven.
24  "And again I say to you,
it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle
than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of Elohim."
25  When His disciples heard it, they were greatly astonished, saying,
"Who then can be saved?"
 26  But Yahshua looked at them and said to them,
"With men this is impossible, but with Elohim all things are possible."

Yahshua also said, “What is highly esteemed among men
is an abomination in the sight of Yahweh.”  (Luke 16:15)

How careful we must be to set the right value on things!
We need to be good stewards of the things Yahweh has blessed us with,
but never value them more than people or truth.
We need to learn to look at things as Yahweh looks at them.
We need to learn to look at the heart
rather than the appearance or the clothes or the riches.

Sabbath Greetings for  6- 26 - 99  ABOMINATIONS
 
Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Last Sabbath evening, EliYah brought us an interesting message about ABOMINATIONS.
Here are some excerpts, along with some of our thoughts.

There are many things in Yahweh's word that he says not to do
but there are some things that are called abominations.

While we do not want to commit any sin,
we want to be particularly certain that we do not do
anything that makes us seem abominable to Yahweh.

First, we see that in Leviticus chapter 11
Yahweh tells us about all the animals that can be eaten
and that must not be eaten.
He calls them clean and unclean.
The unclean animals must not be eaten
and when they die their carcass must not be touched.
Anyone who touches it becomes unclean.
At the end of this ‘cleanness’ chapter Yahweh says:

42  'Whatever crawls on its belly, whatever goes on all fours,
or whatever has many feet among all creeping things that creep on the earth;
these you shall not eat, for they are an abomination.
43  'You shall not make yourselves abominable
with any creeping thing that creeps; nor shall you
make yourselves unclean with them, lest you be defiled by them.
44  'For I am Yahweh your Elohim.
You shall therefore [because I am your Elohim] consecrate yourselves,
and you shall be holy; for I am holy.
Neither shall you defile yourselves with any creeping thing that creeps on the earth.

The word that is translated abomination is H8263 sheqets {sheh'-kets}
from H8262; filth, - abomination, abominable; detestable thing or idol,
an unclean thing, an abomination, detestation.

Now there is also another Hebrew word translated abomination

H8441 tow`ebah {to-ay-baw'}, a disgusting thing, abomination --
in ritual sense (of unclean food, idols, mixed marriages)
or in an ethical sense (of wickedness etc)

Here are some scriptures about such things:

Leviticus 20:13  Also, if a man lies with man, as he lies with a woman,
both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death;
their blood shall be upon them.

Yahweh says to put them to death, but some people say they are OK
or even that they can lead a congregation.

Leviticus 18:26  You shall therefore keep my statutes and my judgments,
and shall not commit any of these abominations;
not any one of your own nation, nor any stranger that sojourns among you:

Anytime we put our will or mans will above Yahweh's will, we commit idolatry
For we are setting ourselves up as elohim. . .the very heart of Satan's sin

Deuteronomy 18:10  There shall not be found among you anyone
that makes his son or his daughter pass through the fire,
or that uses divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.
11  Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.
12  For all that do these things are an abomination unto YAHWEH:
and because of these abominations
YAHWEH your Elohim does drive them out from before you.
Deuteronomy 22:5 - The woman shall not wear that which pertains to a man,
neither shall a man put on a woman's garment:
for all that do so are abomination unto YAHWEH your Elohim.

More abominations:

Deuteronomy 23:18 - You shalt not bring the hire of a whore,
or the price of a dog, into the house of YAHWEH your Elohim for any vow:
for even both these are abomination unto YAHWEH thy Elohim.

Yahweh doesn't want money acquired thru sin in His tithe is how I interpret this..

More abominations:
Deuteronomy 24:1  When a man has taken a wife, and married her,
and it come to pass that she find no favor in his eyes,
because he hath found some uncleanness in her:
then let him write her a bill of divorcement, and give it in her hand,
and send her out of his house.
2  And when she is departed out of his house, she may go and be another man's wife.
3  And if the latter husband hate her, and write her a bill of divorcement,
and gives it in her hand, and sends her out of his house;
or if the latter husband die, which took her to be his wife;
4  Her former husband, which sent her away, may not take her again to be his wife,
after that she is defiled; for that is abomination before YAHWEH:
nd you shalt not cause the land to sin,
which YAHWEH thy Elohim giveth thee for an inheritance.

Remarrying a wife you have divorced after she married another then is also an abomination

Proverbs 11:1 - A false balance is abomination to YAHWEH:
but a just weight is his delight.

Cheating others out of money is an abomination. (Especially if that person is poor!)
The scams we see today...nothing new under the sun

Proverbs 11:20  They that are of a perverse heart are abomination to YAHWEH:
but such as are upright in their way are his delight.

Now here is an interesting passage:

Proverbs 6:16 - These six things does YAHWEH hate:
yes, seven are an abomination unto him:
17 - A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,
18 - An heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief,
19 - A false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

Do we shed innocent blood?
Every year, well over a million babies are murdered by their own mother just in the USA alone

Proverbs 12:22 - Lying lips are an abomination to YAHWEH:
but they that deal truly are his delight.

Proverbs 17:15 - He that justifies the wicked, and he that condemns the just,
even they both are abomination to YAHWEH.

Proverbs 21:27 - The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination:
how much more, when he brings it with a wicked mind?

Yahweh can not endure a sinner making a sacrifice unto Him..it is vain For instance..

Isaiah 1:13 - Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination unto me;
the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies,
I cannot away with;
it is iniquity, even the solemn meeting.

Why?
Because they did these things while living a life of sin!
What purpose is sacrifice?
Is obedience not better than to sacrifice?

Greater abominations?

Yes, Some say that all sin is equal,  that no sin is worse than another,
but not according to Yahweh.

Ezekiel 8:15 - Then said he to me, Have you seen this, O son of man?
turn yet again, and you shall see greater abominations than these.
16 - And he brought me into the inner court of YAHWEH's house,
and, behold, at the door of the temple of YAHWEH,
between the porch and the altar, were about five and twenty men,
with their backs toward the temple of YAHWEH, and their faces toward the east;
and they worshiped the sun toward the east.

There is a lot of sun worship in modern day religion,
even including modern day Christianity,
these things they inherited from the traditions of the 'church fathers'.
But that is another study.

Ezekiel 43:8 - In their setting of their threshold by my thresholds,
and their post by my posts, and the wall between me and them,
they have even defiled my holy name
by their abominations that they have committed.
Therefore, I have consumed them in my anger.

Beware of defiling Yahweh's great name by committing abominations!
When people see the abominations, they will associate Yahweh's name with your actions.

We must walk in righteousness and sincerely repent if we do fail

We must seek Yahweh's will diligently

We know that His will for us is written in Scripture

But beware lest we turn our ear away..

Proverbs 28:9 - He that turns away his ear from hearing the law,
even his prayer shall be abomination.

Today we are told to turn our ear away from the law
for in the minds of millions, it's abolished

We have to be very careful about these things
because our nature tends toward them.
Yahshua the Messiah said, "You are those who justify yourselves before men,
but Yahweh knows your hearts.
For what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of Yahweh. .Luke 16:15

Concerning the Kingdom of Yahweh:

Revelations 21:27 - But there shall by no means enter it anything that defiles,
or causes an abomination or a lie,
but only those who are written in the Lamb's Book of Life.
