Sabbath Greetings for March 1999

Sabbath Greetings for 3-6-99   Peace, Patience, Kindness

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, PEACE, PATIENCE, KINDNESS,
goodness, faithfulness, humility, self-control.
Nothing in the Torah stands against such things, Galatians 5:22-23.

The next fruits of the spirit that we are considering as we approach Passover are Shalom, patience
and kindness.

Remember the deep meaning of ‘shalom’.
If you haven’t got the Sabbath Message about Shalom
in your computer or in your head then review Shalom now.

The important thing to remember is that this wonderful well-being
is a fruit or result of Yahweh’s spirit!
If you accept the master Yahshua as your savior
then you can expect the peace that passes all understanding to dwell in you.
Now, that doesn’t mean we never have any problems.
It just means when problems arise, we meet them with Yahweh’s help.
We get His help both from the scriptures in telling us the right way to live,
and as direct help to smooth our path in many ways:
Healing, favor with authorities, teaching, and even correction when we need it.
Pray for these things.

Things really do go better with Yahweh!

And if they don’t — we have patience.
Patience to deal with our spouse, our children, our parents,
our co-workers or whomever we meet during our walk.
Patience to listen and to understand.
Many times others do not act as we think they should (maybe we don’t either).
They can irritate us in soooo many ways.
But if we use Yahweh’s gift of patience we will find that others respond better to us
and we also feel much better about our encounters with them.

Kindness goes right along with patience.
Kindness is like taking patience a step further.
It is like making patience pro-active.
[Pro-active is the opposite of reactive.
An example of being pro-active is taking the initiative to improve a relationship
rather than letting the relationship be defined by the other person’s bad attitude.]
Kindness applies to everyone; those we meet on the street as well as those in our home.
Those who are in the spirit will be kind to everyone; not merely polite but positively kind.

Friends, along with love and joy we discussed last Sabbath,
welcome and use the gifts of shalom, patience and kindness as we prepare for Passover.

May Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day
as you follow the footsteps of the prince of Shalom,
our patient, kind and loving example, Yahshua the Messiah.

Shabbat Shalom from Tom and Cathy Schattke

Sabbath Greetings for 3-13-99 Goodness, Faithfulness
Dear Friends in Yahshua,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, GOODNESS, FAITHFULNESS,
humility, self-control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things, Galatians 5:22-23.

We continue exploring these fruits of the spirit as they help us prepare for Passover.
This Sabbath we’re looking at goodness and faithfulness.

When your mother dropped you off at Grandma’s for a while she told you, “Be good!”
She probably knew Proverbs 29:15 “The rod and rebuke give wisdom,
But a child left ... brings shame to his mother.”
She was hoping the admonition would stick for a while
so she could go and do something and not have to listen to too much advice
from her mother-in-law when she came to pick me, I mean YOU, up.

The point is:    that is what is meant by goodness.
Understanding and obeying the law with the help of Yahweh’s spirit within us.
Doing what is right and pleasing to our heavenly Father.
Being good.

Faithfulness is a good match to goodness.
While ‘faith’ means having trust and belief,
‘faithfulness’ has more of the meaning of conviction, fidelity, or constancy.
A faithful person is one you can count on to be there for you
even when it might seem hard to do so.

Of course this pattern of behavior grows out of the belief held in our minds.
When we rely on Yahweh for salvation through our Master Yahshua the Messiah,
we stay close to the narrow path Yahshua traveled.
A strongly held conviction that Yahweh is the ruler of the universe motivates us
to seek Him and obey Him.
If we do not search for Yahweh’s truth
and strive to follow the ways of righteousness He reveals to us,
then it is certain we do not strongly believe that He exists and is our owner and loving master.

Action is ALWAYS based on belief.
We always do as our beliefs compel us to do.

This trait of faithfulness is based on the belief
strengthened in our mind by the spirit of Yahweh dwelling there.
It is a trait that righteous people value and cultivate.

When we consider what Yahweh expects of us
and what those close to us expect of us,
then faithfulness given by Yahweh’s spirit stimulates us to do it.

Yahshua, our Savior, had a certain, definite, and detailed knowledge
of His Father in Heaven.
This great faith drove him to do the Father’s will,
even to the point of giving his life to advance the Father’s goals.
Indeed his goodness and his faithfulness made it possible for him to be our Savior.
HalleluYah!

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with His Spirit of goodness and faithfulness
more and more as Passover approaches and especially on this Sabbath Day.

Sabbath Greetings for 3 - 20 - 1999    Humility

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, HUMILITY,
self-control. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things, Galatians 5:22-23.

It seems that humility is an annual feeling we have within us as we approach Passover.
Let’s look at some scriptures and see what humility means to children of Yahweh.

Becoming humble means making some changes in our attitude:

Matthew 18:2  Then Yahshua called a little child to Him, set him in the midst of them,
3  and said, "Assuredly, I say to you, unless you are converted [changed,]
and become as little children, you will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven.

Luke 18:13  "And the tax collector, standing afar off, would not so much as raise his eyes to
heaven, but beat his breast, saying, 'Yahweh, be merciful to me a sinner!'

It means becoming more like Yahshua, our example:

Philippians 2:8  And being found in appearance as a man,
He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death,
even the death of the tree.

Matthew 20:26  "Yet it shall not be so among you;
but whoever desires to become great among you, let him be your servant.
27  "And whoever desires to be first among you, let him be your slave;
28  "just as the Son of Man did not come to be served,
but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many."

John 13:14  "If I then, your Master and Teacher, have washed your feet,
you also ought to wash one another's feet.
15  "For I have given you an example, that you should do as I have done to you.
16  "Most assuredly, I say to you, a servant is not greater than his master;
nor is he who is sent greater than he who sent him.”

Romans 12:10  Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love,
in honor giving preference to one another;
11  not lagging in diligence, fervent in spirit, serving Yahweh;

Humility means knowing the power of Yahweh:

Psalms 8:3  When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,
The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,
4  What is man that You are mindful of him,
And the son of man that You visit him?

Humility is understanding our position before the judge of all.

Micah 6:8  He has shown you, O man, what is good;
And what does Yahweh require of you
But to do justly,
To love mercy,
And to walk humbly with your Elohim?

1 Corinthians 1:28 The base things of the world and the things which are despised,
Yahweh has chosen, and the things which are not,
to bring to nothing the things that are,
29  that no flesh should glory in His presence.

Jeremiah 10:23  O Yahweh, I know the way of man is not in himself;
It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.
24  O Yahweh, correct me, but with justice;
Not in Your anger, lest You bring me to nothing.

1 Kings 3:7-10  "Now, O Yahweh my Elohim,
You have made Your servant king instead of my father David,
but I am a little child; I do not know how to go out or come in.
8. "And Your servant is in the midst of Your people whom You have chosen,
a great people, too numerous to be numbered or counted.
9. "Therefore give to Your servant an understanding heart to judge Your people,
that I may discern between good and evil.
For who is able to judge this great people of Yours?"
10. The speech pleased Yahweh, that Solomon had asked this thing.

Humility means accepting graciously the gifts Yahweh gives to his beloved children:

Psalms 25:9  The humble He guides in justice, And the humble He teaches His way.
10  All the paths of Yahweh are mercy and truth,
To such as keep His covenant and His testimonies.
11  For Your name's sake, O Yahweh, Pardon my iniquity, for it is great.

Ezekiel 16:63  "that you may remember and be ashamed,
and never open your mouth anymore because of your shame,
when I provide you an atonement for all you have done," says the Sovereign Yahweh.

Matthew 5:3  "Blessed are the poor in spirit, For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”
Matthew 5:5 “Blessed are the meek, For they shall inherit the earth.”

Psalms 37:11  But the meek shall inherit the earth,
And shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace.

Matthew 11:29  "Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me,
for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
30  For My yoke is easy and My burden is light."

Friends, as I was reviewing the scriptures for this greeting
I was impressed by the privilege we have in sharing this with you.

May Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day as he is blessing us
with the peaceful and quiet spirit of the master Yahshua.

Good Sabbath from Tom and Cathy Schattke

Sabbath Greetings for 3 - 27 - 1999    Self-control

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, humility,
SELF-CONTROL. Nothing in the Torah stands against such things, Galatians 5:22-23.

As Passover draws upon us, the issue of self-control becomes more compelling.
The Greek word for self-control is only used two other times in the new testament.

Peter talks about it as a step in becoming more like Yahshua.

2 Peter 1:3 . . .as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and piety,
through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue,
4  by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises,
that through these, you may be partakers of the divine nature,
having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

5  But also for this very reason, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue, to virtue knowledge,
6  to knowledge self-control, to self-control perseverance, to perseverance piety,  7  to piety
brotherly kindness, and to brotherly kindness love.

This looks to me like a progression from where we are as
we begin to believe, to the place where
Yahweh’s work in us is complete:

                                                                 8 love (like Yahshua’s)
                                                      7 brotherly kindness
6 piety (a close relationship with Yahweh)
5 perseverance (staying true in spite of obstacles)
4 self-control (the ability to make ourselves obey the law)
                  3 knowledge (knowing Yahweh’s law)
2 virtue (desiring to do the right thing)
1 faith (beginning to believe)

Where am I on this staircase?
What is my next step?
Am I determined to take it?

As we seize control of ourselves we feel some discomfort at leaving our old ways behind.
That is a normal feeling but one we need to recognize and work through it.
The great and precious promises Paul refers to in verse four are not only our eternal salvation.
Right NOW Yahweh gives us POWER, through HIS SPIRIT dwelling in us, to climb those steps!

As Paul explained this good news to Governor Felix, he got to this point
and it made the gov very uncomfortable.
I don’t think Roman governors were used to denying themselves.

Acts 24:25  Now as he reasoned about righteousness, self-control,
and the judgment to come, Felix was afraid and answered,
"Go away for now; when I have a convenient time I will call for you."

Don’t send the good news away for now; until you have a convenient time.
Ask Yahweh to help you through His Spirit to be his child,
in His image.
Let us renew our covenant with Yahweh through our Master Yahshua the Anointed One.
Take the Passover in a worthy manner,
as one who is climbing the steps toward full eternal membership in Yahweh’s family.
Strive to discern, to see, understand, and be part of the body of the Master.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day with a closeness to Him
through the great power of His Spirit.

Dear friends I need to ask you a favor today.
A dear friend and servant of Yahweh is very sick and needs your prayers.
Elder ‘Pete’ Vacca’s wife, Mary Jean has today, 3-25-99, been diagnosed with cancer.
The cancer is far advanced. They are planning surgery within the next several days.
Please join us before Yahweh’s throne of grace and ask that our Healer will,
for the sake of Yahshua’s sacrifice, look down on his daughter and heal her.
He who moves mountains can certainly remove these relatively small masses of tissue.
Please pray that he will.
Mary Jean has ‘washed the feet of the saints’ as a tireless servant for many years.

If you would like to send an encouraging message to Mary Jean you can address it to
StPeter@aol.com.
Please put ‘Praying’ in your subject line
and in the body you may wish to put the first names of those who are praying
and your state or city plus any encouraging words you may wish to add.
We’d better not send messages after 4-3-99 to avoid an email jam that could
become a burden to Elder Pete.   We’ll try to keep you informed.

Good Sabbath from Tom and Cathy Schattke (in tears)

Sabbath Greetings for 3 - 31 - 1999  Passover!

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Passover Greetings!

I know some of us are keeping Passover anywhere from a day one way or the other
to a full month later.
Study these issues for yourself and, if you come to a new conclusion
write it up and bring it to the elders of your assembly.
Then observe the days as your congregation does.
There are good arguments on both sides of this issue and
I feel that it is very hard to be 100% sure.

One thing I do know for sure is that
Yahweh desires very strongly that we love one another.
This was such a powerful message that it had to be delivered in person
by Yahshua near the end of his life.
Why is that?
I believe that he had to show HOW it should be done.
There was apparently no way to explain this quality of love
as clearly as the illustration Yahshua lived for us.
This was a new commandment because
we couldn’t understand it before the anointed one showed it to us.

John 13:34  "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another;
as I have loved you, that you also love one another.
35  By this everyone will know that you are My disciples,
if you have love for one another."

This is how everyone will know we have learned to love from the master of the art.
The stamp of our teacher will clearly show
in how we love the brethren, how we love one another.

Brethren, study the life and the death of Yahshua to learn how he loved.
Observe his gentleness.
Copy his concern.
Imitate his humility and bravery.
Draw so close to him through the accounts of his life
that you know what to expect
if he were asked a new question or presented with a new situation.

See his compassion on his students, on strangers, on his enemies and persecuters.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day
with the peaceful and quiet spirit of the master Yahshua.

Good Sabbath from
Tom and Cathy Schattke
