Sabbath Greetings for January 1999

Sabbath Greetings for 1 - 2 - 99   Good Sabbath, Abba

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Do you ever wish your Father in Heaven ‘Good Sabbath?’

I believe Yahweh keeps Sabbath. He did it 6000 years ago (Genesis 2:2) and I believe that  in
some sense He is keeping it today. Even though the Sabbath was made for man, I’m sure our
Father in Heaven observes it.

What would be a ‘good Sabbath’ for Yahweh?

I think that if He could look down on His children and see them keeping Sabbath with shalom,
love, joy and righteousness then He would be pleased. If his children were together and praising
Him and learning to walk in His ways it would surely please Him. If Sabbath was remembered and
kept as a day dedicated to Him then our Father would smile. If we used Sabbath to fulfill the
purposes for which He gave it, then our Father would be pleased.

Some day we will indeed be able to wish our Father ‘Good Sabbath.’ In that time we will be able
to get together with a thousand other brothers and sing to Father Yahweh a new “Good Sabbath”
song composed just for Him as a little Sabbath gift of love. Besides the blessing He would surely
give us, what a blessing such occasions will be for us!

We are pleased to be able to wish each of you a good Sabbath each week and we are especially
pleased to join you this Sabbath in wishing our Father a “Shabbat Shalom” that is at least a few
hundred voices strong.

Please remember the Elders of all the Assemblies in your prayers today. Ask Yahweh to give them
good health, knowledge, wisdom, and love to help them in their responsibilities. Pray also for
their wives that they may have wisdom, patience and love. These brothers and sisters who
dedicate their time and energy for the brethren need our support.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you with joy on this Sabbath Day!

Sabbath Greetings for 1 - 9 - 99  Sabbath Blessings

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

More snow is predicted for this Sabbath here in Indiana. Last Sabbath we had about a foot of it.

It will still be another Sabbath day to Praise Yahweh!
What a joy it is to come before Yahweh on
Sabbath and spend extra time in prayer,
in reading the word and in talking about it with our family
or other believers.

Of course the Sabbath needs the day of preparation.
That seems to fall mostly on Cathy in our house
but no one can keep Sabbath properly without some preparation.
Even the children have to be there as Sabbath begins.
Everyone has to: "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. Exodus 20:8

I believe that part of “keeping it holy” is being clean as the Sabbath begins.

The word ‘holy’ is Strong’s 6942, qadash;
to be (make, pronounce or observe as) clean (ceremonially or morally)

So you might read “Keep it while you are clean.”
Or even, “Be clean while you keep it.”
It has been a very long tradition of the Jews
to visit the mikvah just before Sabbath to cleanse themselves.
If we don’t have a mikvah available
we should at least take a bath or shower just before Sabbath.

In many scriptures we see that when a person becomes unclean
they are to wash, wash their clothes,
and then at evening they will be clean.
Two examples are Leviticus 15:18 and 17:!5.

Leviticus 15:18  'Also, when a woman lies with a man,
and there is an emission of semen,
they shall bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.

Leviticus 17:15  "And every person who eats what died naturally
or what was torn by beasts,
whether he is a native of your own country or a stranger,
he shall both wash his clothes and bathe in water, and be unclean until evening.
Then he shall be clean.

Even when we do cleanse ourselves,
we still ask Father Yahweh to forgive our sins AND
uncleanness for the sake of the Master Yahshua’s sacrifice.

Another Sabbath custom which I think is a great one is for
the father to bless his children near the beginning of each Sabbath.
The Jewish father might say of his sons,
“May you be blessed as our fathers Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.”
Or he may tell of his daughter,
“May you be blessed as Sarah, Rebecah, Leah and Rachael.”
I didn’t know about doing this when my children were growing up
and I’m sorry for not blessing them as I should have.
I didn’t know the value of blessings then.  Our Father certainly
gives us a good example of blessing us through the Sabbath.

Friends, children, and grandchildren; may Yahweh bless you
on this Sabbath Day as he blessed our ancient parents.

Sabbath Greetings for 1 - 16 - 1999    Remember!

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

"Remember the days of old, Consider the years of many generations.
Ask your father, and he will show you;
your elders, and they will tell you: Deuteronomy 32:7

This is one of many places in the Torah where we are commanded to remember.
They make an interesting little study.
They seem to highlight several lessons we need to learn.
The commands seem to fall into a few categories:
1. Remember that Yahweh is your Mighty one, your helper.
2. Remember where you came from when you are dealing with others.
3. Remember this commandment, it is especially important.

1. Remember that Yahweh is your Mighty one, your helper.
Deuteronomy 7:17  "If you should say in your heart,
'These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?';
18  you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall REMEMBER well
what Yahweh your Elohim did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt;
19  the great trials which your eyes saw, the signs and the wonders,
the mighty hand and the outstretched arm, by which
Yahweh your Elohim brought you out.
So shall Yahweh your Elohim do to all the peoples of whom you are afraid.

Deuteronomy 5:15  And REMEMBER that you were a slave in the land of Egypt,
and Yahweh your Elohim brought you out from there by a mighty hand
and by an outstretched arm;
therefore Yahweh your Elohim commanded you to keep the Sabbath day.

Deuteronomy 8:18  "And you shall REMEMBER YAHWEH your Elohim,
for it is He who gives you power to get wealth,
that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers,
as it is this day.

2. Remember where you came from when you are dealing with others.

Deuteronomy 8:1  "Every commandment which I command you today
you must be careful to observe, that you may live and multiply,
and go in and possess the land of which Yahweh swore to your fathers.
2  "And you shall REMEMBER that Yahweh your Elohim led you all the way
these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you,
to know what was in your heart,
whether you would keep His commandments or not.

Deuteronomy 9:7  "REMEMBER!
Do not forget how you provoked Yahweh your Elohim to wrath in the wilderness.
From the day that you departed from the land of Egypt until you came to this place,
you have been rebellious against Yahweh.

Deuteronomy 15:15  "You shall REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE A SLAVE
in the land of Egypt, and Yahweh your Elohim redeemed you;
therefore I command you this thing today.
Deuteronomy 16:12  "And you shall REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE A SLAVE
in Egypt, and you shall be careful to observe these statutes.
Deuteronomy 24:18  "But you shall REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE A SLAVE
in Egypt, and Yahweh your Elohim redeemed you from there;
therefore I command you to do this thing.
Deuteronomy 24:22  "And you shall REMEMBER THAT YOU WERE A SLAVE
in the land of Egypt; therefore I command you to do this thing.

Deuteronomy 24:9  "REMEMBER what Yahweh your Elohim did to MIRIAM
on the way when you came out of Egypt.

3. Remember this commandment, it is especially important.
Exodus 13:3  And Moses said to the people:
"REMEMBER THIS DAY in which you went out of Egypt,
out of the house of bondage;
for by strength of hand Yahweh brought you out of this place.
No leavened bread shall be eaten.

Deuteronomy 16:3  "You shall eat no leavened bread with it;
seven days you shall eat unleavened bread with it,
that is, the bread of affliction (for you came out of the land of Egypt in haste),
that you may REMEMBER THE DAY
in which you came out of the land of Egypt all the days of your life.

Exodus 20:8  "REMEMBER THE SABBATH day, to keep it holy.
9  Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10  but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yahweh your Elohim.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter,
nor your male servant, nor your female servant,
nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11  For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth,
the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Numbers 15:39  "And you shall have the tassel,
that you may look upon it and REMEMBER ALL THE COMMANDMENTS of Yahweh
and do them, and that you may not follow the harlotry
to which your own heart and your own eyes are inclined,
40  and that you may REMEMBER AND DO ALL MY COMMANDMENTS,
AND BE HOLY for your Elohim.
41  "I am Yahweh your Elohim,
who brought you out of the land of Egypt, to be your Elohim:
I am Yahweh your Elohim."

And, by the way,
Deuteronomy 25:17  "Remember what Amalek did to you on the way
as you were coming out of Egypt,

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day with remembrance unto righteousness..

Sabbath Greetings for 1 - 23 - 1999   Remember the Sabbath day

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Last Sabbath we looked at several scriptures from the Torah
that tell us to remember.
Today we want to focus on one of those.

Exodus 20:8  "Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

When a Jewish woman lights the candles at the beginning of the Sabbath
she lights two of them.
The reason is to commemorate this verse.
One candle is for ‘remember’ and the other is for ‘keep.’

You may ask how you could separate these two commands.
Could you keep the Sabbath without remembering it?
Well, Yahweh placed these two words in the commandment for good reason.

In most of the world today people do not remember THE Sabbath day.
Many observe no day.
Many Christians observe the wrong day.
Muslims observe a different wrong day.
Some few claim they observe all days as days of worship.

Yahweh tells us we must remember the Sabbath.
Remember the same Sabbath He observed at creation.
Remember the same Sabbath our Savior, our example, observed two thousand years ago.
Remember the same Sabbath that has been a sign between Yahweh and His people
for six thousand years! (Exodus 31:13, Ezekiel 20:12, and Ezekiel 20:20
“hallow My Sabbaths, and they will be a sign between Me and you,
that you may know that I am the Yahweh your Elohim.”)

And we must also KEEP IT holy.
Elohim rested from all His labors on the seventh day.
Those who keep Sunday do not usually rest all day and avoid buying and selling.
Even some who remember the seventh day Sabbath
do not keep it as entirely holy time, set apart to Yahweh.

We need to review our Sabbath activities and yield to Yahweh in this.
We do not decide what is appropriate to do on Sabbath.
The Son of man is Sovereign over the Sabbath. I am not.
It is my choice to do His will or not to do it but He decides HOW Sabbath is to be kept.

Exodus 20:9  Six days you shall labor and do all your work,
10  but the seventh day is the Sabbath of Yahweh your Elohim.
In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter,
nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle,
nor your stranger who is within your gates.
11  For in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, the sea,
and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day.
Therefore Yahweh blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
(Set it apart for His purposes)

Even though it is not a law from the scriptures; we may want to follow the custom
of lighting those two candles in our own homes to remember and to keep.
Let us rededicate ourselves to following our Savior and loving Yahweh with total dedication.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day with shalom and light.

Sabbath Greetings for 1 - 30 - 1999  Yahshua and Sabbath

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

We don’t know all the things our savior did that were done on Sabbath.
Several things are noted as happening on Sabbath;
but how many more of the familiar stories of our Messiah took place on Sabbath?
We can’t really tell.
So, let’s see what we can learn from the many incidents
that we know DID take place on Sabbath.

FOOD

Matthew 12:1-2, 7-8  At that time Yahshua went through a grain field
on the Sabbath day and his disciples were hungry,
and began to pluck the ears of grain, and eat them.
But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, "Look!
Your disciples do that which is not lawful to do on the Sabbath day."
. . .[Yahshua said] "But if you had known what this means,
'I will have mercy, and not sacrifice', you would not have condemned the guiltless.
For the Son of man is Master even of the Sabbath day."
We see that a little simple food preparation may be done on Sabbath
for eating on Sabbath. No cooking was done here.

GOOD WORKS

Matt 12:11-13 And he said to them, "What man shall there be among you,
that shall have a sheep, and if it fall into a pit on the Sabbath day,
will he not lay hold on it, and lift it out?
How much then is a man better than a sheep?
Wherefore it IS lawful to do well [good works] on the Sabbath days."
Then said he to the man, "Stretch forth your hand."
And he stretched it forth and it was restored; whole like the other.

CARING FOR ANIMALS

Luke 13:15-16  Yahshua then answered him, and said,
"You hypocrite, does not each one of you, on the Sabbath,
loose his ox or his ass from the stall, and lead him away to watering?
And ought not this woman, being a daughter of Abraham,
whom Satan has bound, lo, these eighteen years,
be loosed from this bond on the Sabbath day?"

It is clear that we have responsibilities to our animals which depend on us for their care.

EMERGENCIES

Luke 14:5  And [Yahshua] answered them, saying,
'Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit,
and will not straightway pull him out on the Sabbath day?

An ox in a pit, water in the basement, a cut in someone's hand
or something spilled may each need attention immediately
to prevent further damage or to relieve pain or distress.
As Yahshua explained, it's just love and common sense to take care of these things.

TRAVEL

Mat 24:20  But pray that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the Sabbath day.

Do we in our day consider that the Sabbath is important enough
that we would hesitate to flee because doing so may break the Sabbath?
Isn't that the meaning of Yahshua's word?
Also in connection with travel think about the 'Sabbath day's journey.'
This was a distance determined by the Jewish leaders to limit walking on a Sabbath.
It was probably less than a mile.
Neither Moses, the prophets, Yahshua nor the Apostles
said anything about this being Yahweh's law.
The principle of spending very little effort in traveling on Sabbath is still a good idea.

ASSEMBLING WITH YAHWEH'S PEOPLE

Luke 4:16  And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and,
as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, and stood up for to read.
Luke 4:31  And [Yahshua] came down to Capernaum, a city of Galilee,
and taught them on the Sabbath days.

You may see more examples of Yahshua being with Yahweh's people on Sabbath
in Matthew 12:6, Mark 1:21 and 6:12, Luke 6:6 and 13:10 and John 5:9 and 9:14.
It was his custom and we must follow Him in this as in everything.

Friends, may Yahweh bless you on this Sabbath Day
as you follow the footsteps of the Messiah.
