Sabbath Greetings for 9-1998

Sabbath Greeting for 9-5-98   Shalom
Sabbath Greeting 1  Shalom

Dear Friends,

We don’t know when the first person said, “Shabbat Shalom”
as a Sabbath greeting, but it was certainly a long time ago.
The phrase is not used in scripture but it is often used today.

The Hebrew word ‘shalom’ is usually translated ‘peace;’
but it means so much more.

While ‘peace’ is defined as the absence of conflict,
shalom is a much richer, more positive word.

Strong’s Hebrew Lexicon has:
7965. shalowm, shaw-lome'; [from H7999, shalam, to be safe (in mind,
body or estate); figuratively to be, or cause, or make completed];
1. safe, well, happy, friendly; 2. welfare, health, prosperity, peace:

Some ways it is translated are: familiar, favor, friend, greet,
(good) health, (perfect, such as be at) peace (-able, -ably),
prosper, prosperity, prosperous, rest, safe, safely, salute,
welfare, all is well, be well, wholly.

According to the Theological Wordbook of the Old Testament,
"The general meaning behind the root of 'Shalom' is of
completion and fulfilment--of entering into a state of wholeness and unity,
a restored relationship"

It has a meaning of complete well-being in all aspects of life.

So when we wish each other ‘Shabbat shalom,’ we are wishing
a Sabbath which is full of good things for them in every way.
It seems to fit perfectly with what our heavenly Father wants
for His people on Sabbath. It certainly fits with our Savior’s
actions and words about Sabbath.

He said, “Shalom I leave with you. My shalom I give to you;
not as the world gives do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27.

Bob and Mary Martin sent this to me:

"Shalom I leave you, My shalom I give you.
Not as the world gives, do I give to you.
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."
            Yahchanan (John) 14:27.

The Shalom we have from Yahweh is the Shalom of
Yahshua as he lay sleeping in the boat as the storm raged.
As the storms rage in our daily lives may we have the
Shalom of Yahweh in our hearts as Yahshua did.

Bob and Mary

It made me think of some Psalms about shalom:

Yahweh will give strength to His people;
Yahweh will bless His people with shalom. Psalms 29:11

Oh, how great is Your goodness which You have laid up
for those who fear You, Which You have prepared
for those who trust in You in the presence of the sons of men!
You shall hide them in the secret place of Your presence
from the plots of man; You shall keep them secretly
in a pavilion From the strife of tongues.
Blessed be Yahweh, for He has shown me
His marvelous kindness in a strong city! Psalms 31:19-21
I will hear what Elohim Yahweh will speak,
For He will speak shalom to His people and to His saints;
But let them not turn back to folly.
Surely His salvation is near to those who fear Him,
That glory may dwell in our land.
Mercy and truth have met together;
Righteousness and Shalom have kissed. Psalms 85:8-10
May this Sabbath be a time of the union of
Righteousness and Shalom for you and your family.

Sabbath Greeting for 9-12-98   ALL THINGS Work Together

Dear Friend in Yahshua,

Recently I've been struck by the great power of
this simple command:

Love Yahweh with all your heart.

Our savior explained that this is the first and greatest
commandment but it was Paul who said,

"We know that ALL THINGS work together for good
to those who love Yahweh, to those who are the called
according to His purpose." Romans 8:28

Talk about a conspiracy!

We can have EVERYTHING working together for
our good just by doing something that should be
natural, easy and delightful to do - love Yahweh.

Sounds like a formula for success to me.

There are some conditions:
We have to love and trust Yahweh enough to
give Him rulership over all we do.

We have to strive to please Him in all our actions.
We have to behave as His good children.

The second part of Romans 8:28 gives us a key:

Yahweh's purpose for man is to have him as his child forever.

That is what Yahweh wants to do.

If we work with Him that is what He will do with us.

Yahweh WILL bless you as you love Him with all your heart
and with all your strength and with all your spirit.

We can't ask a better blessing than that for you, my friend.

Sabbath Greetings for 9-19-98  Chastening

Dear Friend in Yahshua,

Last Sabbath I said, "We know that all things WORK TOGETHER FOR good to those who love Yahweh, (Romans 8:28)

But I failed to say that there is another side of the coin:

And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to children, My son, despise not the chastening of Yahweh, nor faint when thou art rebuked of him: For whomever Yahweh loves he chastens, and scourges every son whom he receives. If you endure chastening, Yahweh deals with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father does not chasten? Heb 12: 5-7

Which agrees exactly with the statement that all things work together for good to those who love Yahweh. Even though all things do not seem good they all do work for our good IF we love Yahweh.

Br Berean said:

If we keep Him in our esteem, if we keep Him as the most important one in our lives, the rest of
righteousness will follow as a result of our desiring to be like Him,
and listening to His Teaching, applying it to our lives,
in a desire to be obedient children of our Father.

Shalom! Brian

"Listen, O Israel: Yahweh our Elohim, Yahweh is one! You shall love Yahweh your Elohim with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart." Deuteronomy 6:4-6.

Now this is how we know that we know Him: if we keep His commandments. He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of Yahweh is perfected in him. This is how we know that we are in Him: He who says he abides in Him [the Messiah], ought himself also to walk just as He walked. 1 John 2:3-6.

Praise Yahweh for the Sabbath! In it we can devote ourselves to learning, understanding and obeying our dear Father's laws; the laws in which Yahshua the Messiah walked which yield blessings and shalom in our lives.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear Yahweh and keep His commandments: for this is the whole of man. Ecc12:13

May Yahweh bless you this Sabbath Day.

High Sabbath Greetings for 9-22-98  Feast of Trumpets

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

Greetings at Yahweh's great Feast of Trumpets!

Sound the shophar at the time of the New Moon, At the covered moon, on our solemn feast day. For this is a statute for Israel, A law of the Elohim of Jacob. Psalms 81:3-4.

You may notice the unusual translation 'covered' in verse 3. Most translations render it 'full' and Strong's concordance shows that definition. Strong's also shows that this word, kece' H3677, is derived from "H3680. kacah . . . to plump, i.e. fill up" which people have looked at to get full moon from the word. However, if we look at the rest of the definition of kacah and how it is used in context, we see that it always means to cover over. Therefore I feel that 'covered moon is a much better translation. I just thought it was interesting; but enough with the technical stuff.

Blow the trumpet in Zion, and sound an alarm in My holy mountain!

Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble;

For the day of Yahweh is coming, For it is at hand: Joel 2:1

This Feast Day looks forward to the great day of the return of our master Yahshua the Messiah in great power.

For the Master Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the shophar of Elohim. And the dead in the Messiah will rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Master in the air. And thus we shall always be with Yahweh. 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.

This, brethren, is the day we are looking for!
This is to be the day of our salvation!

Look! I'll reveal a secret to you:
We shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed; in a moment, in the blink of an eye, at the last trumpet.
For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.
For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal put on immortality.
So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality,
then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written:
"Death is swallowed up in victory.
O Death, where is your sting? O grave, where is your victory?"
The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
But thanks be to Yahweh, who gives us the victory
through our Master Yahshua the Messiah. 1 Corinthians 15:51-57

We praise Yahweh for His great love for us in sending His son,
our savior and in preparing to send our great salvation.
This will be the beginning of an eternity of living and working with Yahweh in all we do.

Brethren, I don't know exactly why Yahweh wants us there but I feel strongly
that He has an important and immense project for all of us to work on.
It will be a project that requires forward-looking hope, great love,
and great trust in and devotion to our Father Yahweh.

Are we ready? Build that strong love for the brethren and devotion to Yahweh.
Establish that great faith so it is ready when our Sovereign will require it for His purpose.

May Yahweh bless you this Feast of Trumpets.

Sabbath Greetings for 9-25-98  Sabbath

Dear Friends in Yahshua,

How about some suggestions from King David on how to spend our Sabbath:

A Psalm. -- A Song for the Sabbath-day.

Psalms 92:1 It is good to give thanks to Yahweh,

and to sing praises to Your name, O Most High;

2 To declare Your loving kindness in the morning,

And Your faithfulness every night,

3 On an instrument of ten strings, On the lute,

And on the harp, With harmonious sound.

4 For You, Yahweh, have made me glad through Your work;

I will triumph in the works of Your hands.

5 O Yahweh, how great are Your works!

Your thoughts are very deep.

6 A senseless man does not know,

Nor does a fool understand this.

7 When the wicked spring up like grass,

And when all the workers of iniquity flourish,

It is that they may be destroyed forever.

8 But You, Yahweh, are on high forevermore.

Recently, when I was visiting a brother on a Sabbath he said, "C'mon children! Let's sing praises to Yahweh." And his children did.

I can see David saying to his companions, "Get your instruments! The Sabbath is here! Let me sing to you this new song about Yahweh's love."

Are we ready to share rejoicing and praise before Yahweh?

Lift up your voice! Call the congregation!

Praise Yahweh for His goodness, His power and His love! HalleluYAH!

May Yahweh bless you with joy on this Sabbath Day.
